Instruments and Practising
Learning an instrument takes practise! Please be sure to have a good instrument at home, somewhere in the home where you/your child will be inspired to play.
Schedule
When students enrol, their place is reserved in the studio for the entire teaching year, from September through June. Tuition reserves an exclusive, weekly spot in a teacher’s schedule.
Tuition is based on a set number of lessons per year, which varies depending the day of the week. Tuition covers two teacher flex days, intended for instances when a teacher is unable to work due to illness or personal reasons. Please note that these flex days won’t be rescheduled or included in the monthly tuition charges.
If a teacher has symptoms but is still well enough to teach their classes, they may, on occasion, switch to virtual lessons for those days to help keep everyone healthy! In addition, substitute teachers may be used from time to time.
For both flex days and a switch to online lessons, you will be notified as early as possible via the email recorded on your account.
The Studio is closed during all major holidays. The full holiday schedule may be viewed by signing into the website at any time.
Make-up lessons
Private students are allowed two make-up lessons per year if appropriate notice is given before the lesson time. Make-up lessons will be held once per term on scheduled days, in December 2022 and June 2023, and any make-up lessons not used by that time will expire.
If a student is too sick to come to their lesson, but able to play piano, a Zoom lesson may be arranged during their regular time slot. This option is strongly encouraged to keep students from falling behind and to minimize the spread of viruses around the Studio. You will be provided with your teacher’s Zoom link at the beginning of the year and may use it when you are sick or for any other reason.
MYC students are not entitled to make-ups, as it is a group class. The student may participate in the class via Zoom if they are able or catch up with recordings afterwards. Otherwise, please keep up with the homework and join us again in the next class.
Ending lessons
Private students must give one month’s notice to end lessons.
MYC students must give two month’s notice to end lessons, as a new student cannot take your place partway through the year.
Invoicing and Payment
Monthly tuition will be invoiced on the first of each month. Payment is due on the 15th of each month via e-transfer and charges carried over to the next billing period will be billed a $10 administrative late fee.
Private students are charged a once-a-year studio fee. These fees cover access to the studio’s licensed materials and apps (e.g., Piano Pronto, Sproutbeat, Boom Cards, etc.), music book lending and electronic music books and sheet music, planning and administrative time.
